While this technically could not be considered griping, I have been wondering if all of the overdone costumes, 10ft tall inflatable ghosts, plastic pumpkins, and glow-in-the-dark Frankenstein monsters are taking the magic out of the holiday. While sounding like an old fogie, I question that all of this consumer stuff is taking away from a kid's natural and imaginative fear of the dark and things that go bump in the night. I recall as a child that the things I did not see, but graphically imagined are far more frightening and real than life-sized inflatable Werewolf's with noisy air pumps attached sitting on somebody's well-manicured lawn. Perhaps it's just me looking at the new and spooky "made in China" lawn decor through an adult's tainted eyes.
